Fifth Annual High School Ethics Bowl at Stevens

Stevens Institute of Technology will hold the Annual High School Ethics Bowl on Thursday, May 31, 2012.

This half-day event introduces participants to careful thinking about ethical issues posed by our modern society. Teams of high school juniors and sophomores compete as they answer questions about ethical issues raised by contemporary science and technology.

The High School Ethics Bowl has become an essential part of campus life at Stevens. Schools from all over New Jersey and New York regularly join us for this event. This year, it will be held for the fourth time.

CAL Faculty on the High School Ethics Bowl

"In this fast-paced world of technological advance, ethical dilemmas seem to surround us as never before. Given the complexity of issues the younger generations are bound to encounter, we believe that the sooner we can cultivate their moral and intellectual skills, the better. That is the spirit behind the Stevens Annual High School Ethics Bowl. It has been an absolute delight to see how seriously these students grapple with the questions we give them and how articulate they are in presenting possible solutions."

Dr. Lisa Dolling, Dean, College of Arts & Letters and Associate Professor of Philosophy

"Welcoming all these students and teachers here on campus is a wonderful experience for us. Every year, we see the commitment and the seriousness of the young people. From all my colleagues who lead the various debates, I receive the most positive feedback about the quality of contributions and the debating spirit students display. We are proud to see that Stevens Institute of Technology is a place where the burning issues of our time can be openly and controversially discussed, in a way that goes far beyond the academic world!"

Dr. Michael Steinmann, Director of the Annual High School Ethics Bowl and Associate Professor of Philosophy
