Dr. Irem Erel-Unal, who earned her doctorate in Chemistry at Stevens in 2009, has been named one of the three women scientists to receive the Turkish Academy of Science and L'Oréal National Fellowship for Young Women in Science – 2010.

Dr. Erel-Unal, a post-doctoral fellow at the Koc University in Istanbul, is the first postdoctoral fellow to be honored by this award. While at Stevens, Dr. Erel-Unal worked in the laboratory of Professor Svetlana Sukhishvili in the Department of Chemistry, Chemical Biology, and Biomedical Engineering where she studied pH responsive hydrogels.

Selection into this fellowship identifies Dr. Erel-Unal as a leading researcher who will continue to serve as a role model for generations to come.
