Professor EH Yang (ME) receives three-year AFOSR grant Prof. Yang (PI) and his team was awarded a 3 year Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) grant for CNT research. The project team consists of 3 Stevens faculty members (Profs. Yang and Fisher of Mechanical Engineering, and Prof. Strauf in Physics and Engineering Physics) and Prof. Dan Choi at the University of Idaho. The team will exploit novel CNT structures and investigate their electron energy properties for future high-speed, low-power electronics applications. |

Funding Awarded to Dr. Zhu for the Research Proposal Entitled, ''Process Technologies for Clean Coal and Renewable Energy'' to the XinAo Institute of Technology, XinAo Group Co. Ltd.With global warming accelerating, reducing worldwide emission of greenhouse gases has to be accomplished within a certain time frame. Though fossil fuels including coal, crude oil and natural gas are not going to last much long, it will last long enough to destroy the environment of the planet. Even with all kinds of renewable energy sources identified, fossil fuels are still not going to go away soon because the price tag for renewable energy is still too high for replacement.

Portable Power Perspectives: Lessons on Reformed MeOH PEMFCWhile portable fuel cells have shown promise as long-lived replacements to conventional batteries, it's still not clear what will be the fuel of choice. The highest performance, proton exchange membrane fuel cells (or PEMFCs), run from hydrogen. One of the most effective ways to store hydrogen is in the form of a liquid, the simple alcohol methanol. However, the extraction of the hydrogen from the methanol in an energy efficient manner has been a problem, especially at low power scales. One of the
