Stevens Team Wins AIChE NJ College Bowl
November 10, 2010
Students at Stevens Institute of Technology have engineering and chemistry know-how – and they can prove it. Recently, Stevens students took first place in the annual American Institute of Chemical Engineers New Jersey Section College Bowl in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. The College Bowl brings together students in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering programs to compete for cash prizes by answering questions in the areas of Engineering, Chemistry, and Physics. Stevens took first at the event, followed by Princeton, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Rutgers. The team was comprised of Rob Bolomey ’11, Barret Elward ’11, John Wright ’12, Owen Jappen ’13, Desi Ivanova ’14, and Ethan Kirschner ’14.
“The team seemed to jive well with one another; a pattern that is sure to follow in AIChE’s other competitive ventures and as we work together in preparation as hosts of the 2012 Regional Student Conference,” said Owen, President of the Stevens Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Dr. Ronald Besser, team advisor and Professor of Chemical Engineering, added, “Thanks to a great leadership team headed by Owen Jappen, the Stevens AIChE is the strongest it has been in years. The victory at the AIChE College Bowl shows two things - that academically our Chemical Engineering students are second to none, and that Stevens AIChE is on a roll!”
