Biomedical Engineering and Stevens Athletic Center announce Launch of Interdisciplinary Research in Sports Medicine
December 8, 2005
By combining the study of Sport and Medicine we may be able to develop better ways to prevent disease, injury, and other ill effects, saving millions of dollars in health care costs and improving the quality of life for many individuals.
We expect this will be the first of many on-campus, interdisciplinary studies that will combine research of sport and medicine to find more effective ways to diagnose, treat, or prevent disease and injuries. Some near-term research topics include pain management, cardiovascular disease, concussion, and soft tissue injury from sport, performing arts, or repetitive use.
This investigation will be lead by Principal Investigator Professor Vikki Hazelwood and Investigator Justyna Majdanska (Masters Student) of the Department of Chemical, Biomedical and Materials Engineering and Coach Celine Cunningham of the Department of Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation.
