| Description: The ultimate goal of this course is to prepare students to undertake the analysis of the most difficult problems in equilibrium stage operations. The problems typically, involve one or more columns with components exhibiting highly non-ideal behavior. This class of problems includes azeotropic distillation, extractive distillation, columns with more than one liquid phase, and a variety of other anomalies. Lack of complete equilibrium dat is not uncommon. Extensive use is made of commercialsoftware in the solution of problems. The course concludes with the assignment of an industrial problem, a substantial project, which requires that the students exercise virtually all techniques studied. |
