Product Development ResearchDesign and Manufacturing Institute
The Design and Manufacturing Institute is a research and development organization for advancing the state of industrial effectiveness through design and manufacturing integration. Among DMI's primary research efforts is the development and commercialization of the Automated Concurrent Engineering Software (ACES) system. DMI also works in polymer and composite research and advanced manufacturing techniques in support of ACES. With a multi- disciplinary staff housed in an 18,000 square foot facility, DMI provides commercial and military customers with a variety of services related to product design, engineering analysis, materials characterization, and the rapid manufacturing and prototyping of molds and parts.
Highly Filled Materials Institute
The Highly Filled Materials Institute was established at Stevens Institute of Technology in 1989 to investigate, both experimentally and theoretically, the rheological behavior, microstructure, processability and ultimate properties of highly filled materials, including suspensions and dispersions. HFMI's research has been multi-disciplinary and has integrated mathematical modeling, experimental studies using industrial-scale processing equipment and characterization of microstructural distributions and ultimate properties of processed articles. HFMI's staff has authored over three hundred technical publications, including six patents, and has presented over two-hundred and fifty papers, seminars and invited talks.
